The Psychology 164 project saw the renovation of underutilized offices into a mixed-use classroom that is available for use by multiple departments at UGA. Representatives from different departments met onsite during the planning process of the project to provide input that would help project manager Samuel Rhinehart deliver them the best possible space, tailored to fit different uses and teaching styles.

Project Manager Samuel Rhinehart graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Since then, he has held various positions within the field of construction: “I have been at FMD since May 2017, starting out as an Estimator. Then, in August 2018, I became a Project Manager. I believe I was selected for this project because I successfully managed the execution of the Active Learning Classroom Initiative and the Classroom Enhancement Program.”

“The purpose of the Psychology 164 project was to create a usable learning space while preserving a piece of UGA's history (the mural). This project actually was in the planning stage for a while because there was a long conversation about what to do with the mural – we didn't know if it would be left in the space or moved elsewhere. Ultimately, it was decided that the mural would stay, and extra precautions would be taken during the remodel to protect it.”

Since the project’s completion, Rhinehart has heard from multiple faculty members about their satisfaction: “They have all seemed really happy with how the project turned out. I even believe the space has been utilized for more than just classroom instruction.”
