Eric Sherman Eric Sherman has been working as a Mechanical Design Engineer since 1995, where he graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University). He paid for his school utilizing the GI Bill, earned while serving in the United Staes Air Force from 1986-1990. While in the Air Force, Eric’s Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Specialist. Since 1995, after Graduating from Southern tech, Eric worked in as an HVAC designer for Engineering firms in the Atlanta market and acquired his PE in 2005. He also spent 4 years working as a contract Engineer in Louisianna assessing Hurricane-related damage under contract to FEMA from 2006-2010. Eric joined FMD in 2010, serving as the Head Mechanical Engineer before attaining the Director of Engineer role in 2020. Eric enjoys golfing, gardening, hiking, and watching sports. |

Austin Chester Austin is a Mechanical Design Engineer at the University of Georgia, specializing in Chilled Water Distribution and HVAC Design and Controls. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Georgia in 2017 and has since become an integral part of FMD's Engineering Department. In the Spring of 2023, he obtained his PE license and continues to demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence and proficiency in the field. He also serves as the interim BIM (Building Information Modeling) manager, and has played a pivotal role in transitioning the department into the 3D environment in order to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of our design. |

Ian Van Giesen Ian is a member of the mechanical engineering team and an EIT. He provides in-house mechanical and plumbing design for the alteration and repair of existing buildings, district energy networks and mechanical plants for the university. He also works with engineering design consultants to facilitate larger design projects. Along with design activities, Ian maintains steam schematics for the main campus, performs laser scanning, and assists with the hydraulic modeling of the chilled water networks. The project management, operations and maintenance and utilities and energy management departments receive Ian’s support with repairs, documentation and improvement for various mechanical systems on and off campus. |

Thomas McGuire

He provides in-house electrical design for the alteration and repair of existing buildings, infrastructures, & systems for the university. He also works with engineering design consultants to facilitate larger design projects. He works with UGA project management & FMD shops to provide a quick and cost-efficient solution for projects across campus. |

Robin Griffeth-Claborn As Architectural Designer, Robin designs a wide range of renovation projects for academic and auxiliary buildings. Robin is a graduate of Athens Technical College and joined the Maintenance Engineering Department in 1997 as a CAD Specialist, was later promoted to Architectural Designer. |

Sara Hanson Sara started employment with UGA in September 2008; and retired from the US Navy after 20 years. She has worked for Georgia Pacific and State Farm for a few years before coming here. Outside of work, Saralikes to go for walks, hikes and to fish and other outdoor activities. |
