Welcome to the UGA Grounds Department

The UGA Grounds Department is one of the largest departments under the UGA Facilities Management Division. Responsible for the beautiful landscape architecture seen all around campus, Grounds ensures that every area of campus is kept to the utmost highest standard.


The Grounds Department is responsible for the landscapes, roads, and walkways that comprise the main campus exterior, providing:

  • Landscape architectural design
  • Tree, shrub and turf management
  • Paving and heavy equipment construction
  • Surveying and utility location information
  • Sign program management
  • Pest management
  • Stormwater management and organic recycling

Of the 800+ acres of campus that the Grounds Department maintains, there are approximately 90 acres of sidewalk, 43 acres of streets, 136 acres of landscape beds, 180 acres of turf, 69 acres of natural areas, and 5  acres of rain gardens.

Who Are We?

The Grounds Department manages over 800 acres of UGA’s Campus in Athens, GA. Including 90 acres of sidewalk, 42 acres of streets, 170 acres of parking lots, 210 acres of landscape beds, and 180 acres of lawn. Additionally, the Automotive Center manages a fleet of over 1300 vehicles statewide.
