Solid Waste & Recycling

The recycling and solid waste program works in conjunction with other state agencies and University departments. Included in the operations of recycling are education and promotion, as well as relevant literature regarding recycling. Accepted recycling and solid waste items are generally categorized into three areas: paper recycling, single-stream recycling, and miscellaneous items. Anything not placed in the recycling streams goes to the landfill.

Recyclable items include:

  • Single Stream Containers: computer printouts, and envelopes; cardboard, cereal and pizza boxes; junk mail; advertisements; brochures; fliers; newspapers and magazines; catalogs; telephone books; paperback books; milk and juice cartons; paper bags, soda cans, aluminum foil, food trays; glass bottles and jars (clear, brown, green and blue – without lids); plastic bottles and containers
  • Ink and Toner Cartridges: Place a work request for pick up
  • Wooden Pallets: Place a work request for pick up

Departments should also bag shredded paper and place in recycling roll carts located throughout campus buildings.
